Christopher R. Sforzo, M.D. is a board certified orthopedic surgeon and fellowship trained in hand and upper extremity surgery. He provides expert care in the treatment of problems involving the shoulder, arm, elbow, forearm, wrist and hand.

He performs many procedures using minimally invasive techniques including endoscopic carpal tunnel release, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, and arthroscopic wrist and elbow procedures. Dr. Sforzo was the first surgeon to perform an endoscopic carpal tunnel release at Lakewood Ranch Medical center. He treats many pediatric patients and has expertise in fracture care.

Dr. Sforzo has medical appointments and admitting privileges at many local medical facilities, including Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Doctors Hospital of Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, IMG (Intercoastal Medical Group) Ambulatory Surgical Center, and Doctors SameDay Surgical Center.

He attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree. He earned his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine with honors and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Florida/Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida and remained there to complete his Hand and Shoulder Fellowship training under the tutelage of Paul Dell, M.D., Larry Chidgey, M.D. and Tom Wright, M.D.

Dr. Sforzo was selected as the Director of Sports Medicine for the new Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch and is the official orthopedic surgeon and hand surgeon to the Sarasota Orchestra. He is a special consultant for the IMG Academies and the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy and serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor in Orthopedic Surgery at the Florida State University College of Medicine, Sarasota Campus.

Along with his wife Terri, and two children Sydney and Ryan, Dr. Sforzo contributes significantly to youth sports in the community. He is the medical director and team physician for the Out-of-Door Academy. He coaches the U11 youth recreational lacrosse development teams (Monsters Lacrosse Academy) and the U11 competitive travel lacrosse team. In addition to serving as team physician for the youth lacrosse program, he oversees nine travel teams, their coaches and staff, website, travel arrangements, and funding. He also serves as the team physician for the Sarasota Sun Devils Youth Football program in Twin Lakes, and consulting physician for the Youth and Adult Tennis Academy at Longwood Run Country Club, Laurel Oak Country Club, Lakewood Ranch Country Club, The Meadows Country Club and Cascades Country Club.
